Launch Monitor · In the app · iPhone

A launch monitor in your pocket.

Your iPhone’s camera tracks the ball. Put the ball in the circle, tap start and swing — the app measures your launch and tells you the result out loud.

How it works

Set up once. Hit as many as you like.

The Launch Monitor uses your phone’s camera directly, so it runs in the Scratch Circle app. It is on iPhone for now; Android is not supported yet.

01

Set up

Put your phone on a tripod 3–5 feet from where the ball sits, roughly ball height, aimed along your target line. Choose your club.

02

Calibrate

Place the ball inside the on-screen circle. The app uses a golf ball’s real size to set the scale, then shows when it is ready.

03

Swing

Tap start and hit. The app tracks the first moments of ball flight, works out your numbers, and announces the result.

What it measures

The numbers that matter for distance.

  • Ball speed and launch angle, measured from the ball’s tracked path.
  • Carry distance, apex and hang time, projected from your measured launch with a physics model.
  • Launch direction, as an estimate from a single camera.
  • Clubhead speed and smash factor, estimated from your ball speed using typical values for the club. These are derived, not measured, and the app labels them that way.
  • No spin measurement. The app does not measure backspin or sidespin. A phone camera tracks the ball’s flight, not its rotation, so we don’t show numbers we can’t back up.

More than a number

Built for a whole practice session.

Session stats

Averages per club, a log of every shot, and a dispersion chart that shows where your shots land.

Trends over time

Your carry and ball speed per club, session by session, from real shots you hit.

Your own distances

After a few shots with a club, its number becomes your own average instead of a typical distance for your level.

Spoken results

Hear each result as soon as it’s tracked. Mute it or turn it down from the live screen or the result screen.

Feeds your card and your plan

Your ball speed, carry and consistency, and how they change from your first session to your latest, go on a card you can share. After five tracked shots with a club the card carries a Verified chip. Five balls also count as the weekly check in a Focus Plan; a check in week 1 is free.

High-speed capture on iPhone

Fast club speeds need a fast camera. Where your iPhone supports it, the app records at up to 240 frames per second. The exact rate depends on your phone.

An estimate, not a TrackMan. Camera tracking is a practical way to compare shots and see trends, not a substitute for a radar launch monitor. Accuracy depends on your setup, lighting and phone. Treat single numbers as a guide and watch your averages.
